New pals made

Life has been moving on a fast lane. Do I hear someone say "Whats new about it?"

Last week, I handled a complete different responsibility at work. I was nominated to take care of our Director's wife, while he attended to business. Why me? was my question, and someone said, u know the city like the back of ur palm and I chuckled so loudly, they thought I was mad. Scene here is so bad with me, I sometimes don't recognize the back lane of my house, and the entire city as the back of my palm? Anyways since the responsibility was dumped on me, I took it with a smile.

The entire exercise turned out to be more fun, I realized that I was representing the entire Indian Culture, oh boy! too much for my weak shoulders, but I am glad I carried it with ease and had the lady asking for more. Mrs. Director, a German, a marine biologist by profession, who has now turned to be a full-time mother, was a amazing lady, the wisdom in her face shone so bright I was awe-struck. After a round of about 4 hours of shopping, where she brought some exquisite sandle handicrafts, pashmina shawls, silk scrafs, chudidar's and hold ur breath a lovely green saree. She looked so elegant in the emerald green saree, that everyone at the store had to turn around to look at her. Ofcourse many on-lookers found it funny that a European wearing a saree...but believe me she looked gorgeous.

After a wonderful four hours of shopping, chatting, discussion ranging from home to studies to work to religion to ethics to cooking to what not, we came back to the hotel. As i escorted her to her room, she called me in, i was to give a gift to her on behalf of the company. Much before i could do that, she suprised me with a gift. Nothing small, a neat Swarvoski Broach. I was so surprised and touched, i stood there gaping at her. A smile and a hug made me come back to my senses....i just could not beleive it. We parted after promising to see each other at the official dinner. And ofcourse, since i took her around while on my fast, made me score more brownie points with her. The dinner not to mention was a good one, just hoped that India has won the Bangalore match and made our evening more memorable.

As i walked into the office and showed it to a few people they could not beleive what they saw. Was voted the richest lady the company. ;-)
It so happened that the next day i was again requested to take another Customer for shopping, ofcourse recommended by our Lady, this again was fun, and i didnot get a gift at the end of it.

A thouroughly enjoyable experience, and a rewarding one too.
